United rescued by last-gasp own goal

Manchester United FC, who beat Manchester City FC last month with an added-time goal, salvaged a 2-2 draw versus Sunderland AFC in similar style on Saturday while Portsmouth FC beat Wolverhampton Wanderers FC to pick up their first Premier League points of the season.

Prolific Bent
With second-placed Chelsea FC playing Liverpool FC on Sunday, United had the chance to go three points clear but any cushion seemed unlikely when Sunderland's Darren Bent scored his seventh league goal of the campaign and Kenwyne Jones his fifth either side of Dimitar Berbatov's overhead kick. But ex-United player Kieran Richardson was dismissed with five minutes left and Anton Ferdinand, younger brother of the rested Rio, put through a last-gasp own goal. Sunderland, under former United favourite Steve Bruce, remain sixth.

First victory
Portsmouth, who started the day six points adrift of saftey after seven successive league defeats, never surrendered their advantage at Molineux after taking a 19th-minute lead through Hassan Yebda's header. Wolves have now lost three of their last four league games and sit 16th with seven points.

Perfect record
Burnley FC maintained their 100 per cent home record and climbed to ninth with a 2-1 victory over fellow promoted outfit Birmingham City FC. Hull City AFC also made strides in the bottom half of the table, moving on to seven points with a 2-1 triumph over Wigan Athletic FC thanks to goals from Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink and Geovanni, Scott Sinclair claiming a late consolation for the visitors.

Ćorluka leveller
While Sinclair's maiden goal for Wigan was little more than consolation, Niko Kranjcar and Vedran Ćorluka's first strikes for Tottenham Hotspur FC carried greater significance. The Croatian duo scored one equaliser apiece as Tottenham twice came from behind to salvage a 2-2 draw at Bolton Wanderers FC to go third.
